Good News / Bad News Freeze

Connect events to price changes.

StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.

Setup

  1. Read a short fictional news event, such as “A celebrity announces a new movie,” “A celebrity takes a long break from public projects,” or “A rival celebrity releases a hit song.”
  2. Students stand if they think the share price will rise, sit if they think it will fall, or hold up a flat hand for “stay about the same.”
  3. Run the event in StockSt and compare the class predictions with the actual price movement.

Scoring

One point for a correct direction prediction; one bonus point for explaining why.

Teacher debrief

Ask a student from each group (standing, sitting, flat hand) to explain their thinking. Point out that a reasonable prediction can still be wrong, and that the reasoning matters.
