Save, Spend, or Invest?

Practice tradeoffs between spending now and saving or investing later.

StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.

Setup

  1. Give each student the same fictional weekly allowance.
  2. Reveal three choices: buy an in-game cosmetic item today; save coins for next week; or buy a celebrity share.
  3. Run several rounds so students can make different choices as the week-by-week situation changes.
  4. After the final round, students compare outcomes. Some will have more coins, some will own more shares, and some will have spent everything.

Scoring

This game is not scored. The point is the comparison of outcomes and the reasoning behind each choice, so avoid declaring a winner.

Teacher debrief

['What did you give up when you spent now?', 'When did saving feel like the best choice?', 'Why can investing be uncertain?']
