Contrarian Challenge

Test independent thinking and valuation discipline.

StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.

Setup

  1. Identify the most popular rising share and the most unpopular falling share in the class simulation.
  2. Students take the opposite position from the crowd: they analyze whether the popular share is overpriced and whether the unpopular share is unfairly punished.
  3. Students decide whether to buy, avoid, or reduce exposure within StockSt’s rules.
  4. Students justify the decision with at least three data points.

Scoring

Award the highest points for a well-reasoned decision to avoid a trade, not only for making a trade. This reinforces that doing nothing can be a valid investment decision.

Teacher debrief

Ask, “Was it easier to go against the crowd or with it?” Discuss how herd behavior and valuation discipline interact.
