Investment Committee Simulation
Practice portfolio construction, research, debate, and governance.
StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.
Setup
- Each team becomes an investment committee managing a fictional StockSt fund.
- Assign roles: Portfolio Manager (owns final allocation decisions); Research Analyst (prepares share theses); Risk Officer (enforces concentration and loss limits); Market Analyst (tracks news, sentiment, and trends); Compliance Officer (ensures disclaimers and ethical rules are followed); and Client Relations Lead (presents results to the class).
- Teams create an investment policy statement with an objective, time horizon, and risk tolerance.
- Teams hold at least five positions and limit any one position to 20% of the portfolio.
- Teams maintain a trade log with the rationale and outcome of each trade.
- Teams present two full investment theses and run one downside scenario.
Scoring
Use the capstone rubric, and award separate points for analytical quality, risk controls, and communication.
Teacher debrief
Ask each team which role was most important when markets moved, and where the committee disagreed. Discuss how governance rules such as position limits changed decisions.
