Capstone: Investment committee

Students present, defend, and revise a portfolio strategy.

StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.

Warm-up

Give teams five minutes to rehearse a thirty-second summary of their fund’s objective and biggest risk. Ask one volunteer to present to the class as practice for the panel.

Mini-lesson

Review the panel format and the capstone presentation rubric. Remind students that every presentation must include the required disclaimer and that questions from the panel are a chance to show reasoning, not a test of whether the portfolio made money.

StockSt activity

  1. Teams act as investment committees managing a fictional StockSt fund.
  2. Deliverables: an investment policy statement (objective, time horizon, risk tolerance, constraints); the portfolio allocation with category exposure; two full investment theses; risk-management rules; and a performance review with lessons learned.
  3. Panel format: classmates acting as “clients” or “risk officers” question each team.
  4. Required disclaimer in every presentation: “StockSt uses fictional currency and simulated shares for education only. This is not investment advice.”

Discussion

After the panel, ask each team what question it found hardest and what it would change in its policy statement because of it. Invite the audience to name one strength they noticed in another team’s approach.

Exit ticket

Students write one revision they would make to their fund’s strategy and the evidence behind it.

Assessment

Capstone presentation rubric covering analytical rigor, diversification, risk controls, communication, ethical disclaimers, and reflection.
